Our Coaches and Counselors.

Well really, it’s Coach and Counselor. Spoiler! It’s the same guy.

Cecil Lunsford,

APPA Level 1 Philosophical Counselor

Cecil is a trained analytic philosopher, certified philosophical counselor/consultant, certified running coach, certified teacher, musician, road/trail runner, surfer, and skateboarder. He completed an A.A. In Architecture at Palm Beach Community College in 2005, a B.A. in Philosophy at Florida Atlantic University in 2009, and a M.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration on Philosophy, Literature, and Society in 2012. He taught Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, and Critical Reasoning at Palm Beach State College from 2012-2022. Additionally, he taught IB Philosophy HL and IB Theory of Knowledge at G-Star IB World School from 2013-2021, and then at Suncoast Community High School from 2021 to Present.

Cecil believes in a tailored counseling practice that is designed to help clients identify problems in the logic of their belief systems at their own pace. While some confrontation of clearly contradictory beliefs will be necessary the modality of discussion based, art, meditative, and biblio-therapy that he prescribes will often feel like a conversation with a friend. His goal in practice is not ever to change the minds of his clients, but rather to instill a principled sense of security in the consistency of their belief systems.

“I start off by getting a clear picture of what my students and clients believe, and the narrative that they have developed about themselves. I then reveal how these beliefs work together and what the words they say about themselves mean. It is they who decide which beliefs to maintain and which contradictions to clear up. I only point out that they exist. Next we work on developing a theoretical framework that can help reinforce the beliefs that they decide maintain; simultaneously, we develop a clear protocol for trimming and altering beliefs that do not represent who they feel, and argue that they are. I am a meddler who makes you justify, rather than a sage to whom you supplicate for answers.” -Cecil on Philosophical Practice

He has been a member of the American Philosophical Association Eastern Region since 2017. In 2024 he joined the American Philosophical Practitioners Association, where he is an Adjunct Member in good standing, and the National Philosophical Counseling Association, Where he is a Consultant Member in Good Standing. He completed the APPA’s Philosophical Counseling Training Level 1 in August of 2024 and plans to complete Level 2 and the NCPA LBT training in 2025.

“Philosophy and Running changed my life. I feel better in my 40’s than I ever did in my 30’s or 20’s. I am a licensed teacher, and APPA Philosophical Counselor, trained in Philosophy and Ethics. I believe in approaching coaching from a whole person epicurean perspective. Exercise is about cultivating happiness and ataraxia. I recommend the integration of yoga, weight training, diet, thought experiment, and a variety of diverting activities into a cross training regiment, with a strong focus on recovery and pain reduction.” -Cecil’s RRCA Page.
